Birchall Tea champions the return of the proper winter cuppa

Birchall Tea is encouraging people to revive traditional winter rituals as temperatures begin to fall, beginning with the simple pleasure of putting the kettle on.

The family-owned British brand produces a collection of black teas, herbal infusions and fruit blends designed for different moments throughout the day.

Its flagship Great Rift English Breakfast combines black teas grown in East Africa to create a rich, full-bodied brew suited to cold mornings. According to Birchall, the blend has received a Great Taste Award for 16 consecutive years.

For afternoons, the company recommends its Earl Grey, which combines black tea with citrus notes from bergamot. Its caffeine-free evening options include peppermint, camomile and a selection of fruit infusions.

Alongside its tea recommendations, Birchall has shared five inexpensive ways to make the colder months feel more comfortable:

  • Make time for a proper pot of tea rather than drinking one hurriedly between tasks.
  • Use a hot water bottle to warm a bed or provide additional warmth beneath a blanket, following the manufacturer’s safety instructions.
  • Add woollen socks, jumpers and blankets before turning immediately to costly electrical gadgets.
  • Revive the afternoon tea ritual with a few biscuits or a slice of cake.
  • Create a comfortable corner with soft lighting, a book and a favourite mug.

A cup of tea is no replacement for adequately heating a home, but the familiar ritual can provide a small and affordable moment of comfort during the colder months.
