Elliott Kaye has opened Marrion’s, a neighbourhood bar and restaurant on Hackney’s Morning Lane.
Kaye previously worked at Lyle’s, The French House and Leroy before co-founding Norman’s Cafe, which closed last year. Marrion’s is his first solo venture and is intended as an informal local spot for drinks, dinner or both.
The menu centres on comforting, nostalgic dishes priced between £5 and £18. Options include devilled crab rarebit, moules frites, prawn cocktail and pork schnitzel Holstein with capers, anchovies and a fried egg.
A classic cheeseburger and Kaye’s favourite tuna melt also feature, alongside cold cuts, Waldorf salad and fries with malt vinegar mayonnaise. Tiramisu is served for dessert.
Cocktails cost between £10 and £13 and focus on pared-back versions of familiar drinks. A house martini will change monthly, beginning with the Puritan, made with Yellow Chartreuse.
The drinks list also includes Spanish vermouths and a compact selection of wines from importers including Tutto Wines, Otros Vinos, Newcomer and Sager & Wine. Wine starts at £5 a glass and £30 a bottle, while Victoria Málaga is the bar’s sole draught beer.
The intimate interior combines dark timber, cream walls, vintage mirrors and bespoke furniture by Oscar Oliver Studio. A communal table and kitchen counter sit alongside smaller tables and a curved black bar.
Marrion’s is open for walk-ins only from 6.30pm until late, Wednesday to Saturday, at 177 Morning Lane, Hackney, E9 6LH. Sunday brunch is expected to follow at a later date.
