The Science Museum has launched its first-ever afternoon tea, a family-friendly experience that combines culinary creativity with science and art. Served in the museum’s Gallery Café, the offering has bespoke menus for both adults and children, making it an engaging way to round off a day at one of London’s most visited attractions.
Curated by Benugo chefs, the afternoon tea is presented on plates designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the studio founded by the late Zaha Hadid, who designed the museum’s Mathematics Gallery. The result is an afternoon tea as visually striking as it is delicious, echoing Hadid’s signature blend of art and science.
The Kids Science Afternoon Tea (£22) encourages hands-on play, with cupcakes decorated using syringes of frosting and toppings served in test tubes, petri dish jelly, and a fizz-making lemonade experiment using beakers and test tubes. Savoury bites include mini brioche rolls, cheese straws, tuna mayonnaise sandwiches and sausage rolls, while the sweet tray features jelly “moon rocks,” edible soil, and rocket ship cookies.
The Adults Science Afternoon Tea (£32) offers a more refined spin on the theme, with Earl Grey scones, a solar system cupcake, galaxy brownie, smoked salmon sandwiches, and Cumberland sausage rolls. Unlimited teas and coffees are included, with the menu designed to nod playfully to scientific discovery.
Afternoon tea is available Wednesday to Sunday at 12.00 and 15.00, with two-hour sittings. Advanced booking is required, and gift vouchers are available.
