ScandiKitchen, London’s go-to spot for Scandinavian food, has opened its long-awaited second site on Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria. Eighteen years after launching in Fitzrovia, the husband-and-wife team of Danish-born Bronte Aurell and her Swedish husband Jonas have brought their much-loved cafe-shop format to SW1.
Like its Fitzrovia sibling, the new ScandiKitchen offers both dine-in and takeaway in an informal, cafe-style setting. Doors open at 7:30am for coffee or tea with homemade porridge, fruit-topped overnight oats, or a classic Swedish cinnamon bun.
Lunch sees signature open sandwiches — Nordic smoked salmon with pickled fennel, sweet pickled herring, or Swedish meatballs with creamy beetroot salad — alongside daily specials and Scandi-style salads. For something hot, the famous Swedish meatballs with mash or salad remain a best-seller, as does their Scandi hot dog.
Afternoons call for fika: homemade biscuits and cakes, including their cult-favourite love cakes and dream cakes.
Beyond the cafes, ScandiKitchen runs an online store stocking over 1,000 authentic products, and supplies Scandinavian goods to restaurants and food businesses across the UK. For Bronte and Jonas, this second opening marks an exciting new chapter — and another reason for Londoners to embrace their love of all things Scandi.
