Review – Sweetpea Pantry Baking Mixes

Really simple and easy to make bake-at-home kits that are packed full of superfoods. No they aren’t as sweet and indulgent as a chocolate bar, but you might feel better about yourself for eating these instead!

Sweetpea Pantry is a fairly new kid on the block, helping families to get into baking, while getting out of bad habits. Their range of bake-at-home mixes are full of all-natural wholegrain ingredients and nutritional extras. They believe that good food makes happier, healthier children, but that parents don’t always have the time or energy to start from scratch, so could use a helping hand.

The kits are suitable for all ages, it’s more down to how brave you are at letting your kids roam free in the kitchen. At the most basic level, they can help you mix ingredients and feel like they’ve done a good job.

Retail price is £4,99 (plus P&P), which is a little more on the expensive side for a baking kit, but much cheaper than buying the healthy versions of many of these treats ready-made and with the added bonus of them being fresher and home-made. The range includes: Super Oat Flapjacks, Ginger Giggles, Playful Pizza Dough, Grainy Brainy Pancakes and Chocolate Giggles. You can get the set for £25 with free delivery, which makes everything a bit better value too.

I found in general that the end results were a bit less sweet than the less-healthy or more traditional recipes for many of the sweet recipes; but it wasn’t by any means unpleasant and a small price to pay for something a bit less ‘plastic’. I also found that some of the ingredients I was adding, didn’t seem all that healthy – butter and honey for example. But then, that feeds into the much wider discussion of what is good or bad – both of these products are natural so seen as better than many of the alternatives – and that’s a debate I’m just not going to get into on this blog.

Here’s us trying our the Super Oat Flapjacks:
