Southern American soul food restaurant Americana has opened in London’s theatreland.

Diners can expect dishes such as flame-grilled oysters, Cajun gumbo, Creole jambalaya, smoked chicken wings, steaks and bbq ribs.

Vgetarian and vegan dishes include Southwest salad, the Americana vegan burger and gumbo.

Desserts like deep-filled apple pie with salted caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream and cinnamon crumbs and the Alabama pecan pie with Chantilly cream and toasted pecans take inspiration from the southern states.

The site has undergone a significant refurbishment to host the restaurant. Ornate vaulted ceilings, retro tiling,  art deco chandeliers, and commodious leather booths add to the American brasserie-inspired atmosphere.

The expansive space, complete with theatre kitchen, can accommodate large groups but also features a more intimate backroom bar and private gallery dining.

Stephen Less, owner, said: “Having found an incredible and stunning location in the heart of London, we designed, developed and created a unique and independent restaurant which would transport our guests into a truly Deep Southern American setting, complete with bar, private dining and event room.

“As an added bonus to the fantastic and central location, we managed to secure outside seating until midnight and a late license allowing us to serve food and drink until 3am.”

The Late Menu with signature small plates and cocktails, is available to enjoy at the bar until 3am, Wednesday to Sunday.
