Islington wine pub Godet is bringing Ling Ling’s into the garden this September for a one-off Vietnamese-inspired barbecue, accompanied by a tap takeover from Two Flints brewery.
Taking place on Saturday 12 September, the collaboration centres on a bún chả-inspired menu cooked outside over the barbecue, with guests choosing between pork, chicken and smoked aubergine.
The pork will be marinated with lemongrass and Vietnamese aromatics, while the chicken gets an appropriately boozy treatment, first brined in Two Flints beer before being marinated with ginger, citrus and garlic. A vegan option sees smoked aubergine paired with a spicy sesame sauce.
Each is served as a bowl with rice noodles, pickled carrot and daikon and a fermented pineapple hot sauce, bringing together the charred meat, freshness and sharp, punchy flavours associated with Vietnamese bún chả.
The collaboration brings together Godet and Ling Ling’s once again, with chef Jenny Phung having held a residency at the Essex Road pub since October 2025. Phung launched Ling Ling’s after moving into food professionally in 2016, building a style of cooking rooted in her Chinese heritage while challenging traditional British expectations of Chinese food.
Beer comes courtesy of Windsor brewery Two Flints, which will take over Godet’s taps for the entirety of September. Tickets for the barbecue cost £35 and include a choice of bowl plus two pints of Two Flints beer.
There are two sittings, at 1pm and 3pm, but the afternoon won’t end when the plates are cleared. DJs Danny Gibbs and Robbie Wood will be behind the decks until 6pm, playing an eclectic vinyl selection spanning 1980s electronic and world music.
Godet opened on Essex Road in 2024 from Sylvain Bertozzi, the team behind Hackney Downs wine bar Binch. Taking its name from French slang for ‘a glass’, the modernised Victorian pub combines low-intervention wines and craft beer with food and regular vinyl DJs.
Godet x Ling Ling’s x Two Flints takes place on Saturday 12 September at Godet, 382 Essex Road, London N1 3PF. Tickets cost £35 per person and include one bowl and two pints, with sittings at 1pm and 3pm.
