West London Italian restaurant Canteen is leaving Portobello Road behind for the summer, opening a seasonal pop-up at The Old Coal Yard in the Cotswolds from 4 June.
Running throughout the season, the countryside outpost will bring Canteen’s relaxed approach to Italian cooking to a new setting, with a menu centred on fresh pasta, pizzas and seasonal dishes that will change weekly according to what’s available.
Executive Chef Jess Filbey and Head Chef Lorenzo Nigro will lead the kitchen, serving dinner from Thursday to Sunday, alongside weekend lunches. Guests can also expect pizzas from Gozney ovens throughout the day, an outdoor bar and a fire pit designed for long summer evenings.
The programme extends beyond the food, with live music every Friday and family-friendly games on Saturdays, making the pop-up as much a seasonal gathering spot as a restaurant.
Unlike Canteen’s London site, the Cotswolds pop-up will accept reservations, although walk-ins will also be welcome throughout the summer.
Combining wood-fired cooking, changing seasonal menus and an informal outdoor setting, Canteen’s latest venture looks set to bring a slice of Portobello’s laid-back dining scene to the heart of the Cotswolds.
