Londoners with a sweet tooth have a reason to celebrate this weekend. To mark Cinnamon Bun Day, ScandiKitchen, the capital’s best-known Scandinavian food emporium, is giving away free cinnamon buns on Saturday October 4.
There’s only one catch: customers must use the password “KANELBULLE” – Swedish for cinnamon bun – when visiting ScandiKitchen’s cafés in Victoria or Fitzrovia. Say the word at the counter and a freshly baked cinnamon bun is yours for free.
Cinnamon Bun Day is rooted in the Swedish ritual of fika – a daily pause for coffee, cake and conversation with friends, family or colleagues. At ScandiKitchen, the buns are made with fluffy yeasted dough, rolled with spiced sugar, glazed with syrup and sprinkled with pearl sugar.
Alongside the giveaway, both locations will be serving their regular menu from early morning.
Breakfast includes healthy options, teas and coffees, while lunchtime features ScandiKitchen’s signature open sandwiches – from Nordic smoked salmon with pickled fennel to Swedish meatballs with beetroot salad. Hot dishes such as Swedish meatballs with mash or salad, and classic Scandi hot dogs, remain firm favourites. For something sweet, the counter is stocked with home-baked cakes and biscuits, including best-sellers like love cake and dream cake.
