NIJŪ, Mayfair’s Japanese restaurant rooted in the traditions of home-style cooking, will mark its first anniversary on April 26 with a one-night-only tasting menu.
The six-course experience will be led by executive chef Chris Golding, with sushi curated by Creative Restaurant Group’s culinary director and third-generation sushi master Endo Kazutoshi.
Since opening in 2023, NIJŪ has built a reputation for offering a modern interpretation of Japanese cuisine through its focus on seasonal ingredients and refined technique.
Influenced by the Japanese principle of Omotenashi – hospitality grounded in thoughtfulness – NIJŪ’s menu combines traditional methods with contemporary execution.
At the core of its offering is Katei Ryōri, the art of home-cooked dining, alongside premium cuts of Wagyu and Kobe beef grilled over a custom Konro using a blend of binchotan, briquette, and cherry wood charcoal.
The anniversary menu will open with steamed edamame seasoned with yuzu salt and spring vegetable crudités with tofu dressing.
These will be followed by a chef’s selection of sashimi, with a curated sushi course led by Kazutoshi, who will be on-site to present the dishes.
Highlights from the hot courses include hay-smoked Spanish tuna with tomato ponzu and shiso oil, and A4 Japanese Wagyu sirloin served with mushroom and wild garlic gohan, finished with miso butter.
The meal concludes with a matcha and white chocolate fondant with strawberry, vanilla tuile, and milk ice cream.
The kitchen is headed by Golding and head sushi chef David Bury, who works closely with Kazutoshi to deliver a sushi programme that focuses on ingredient precision and elegant presentation.
Bury, a long-time protégé of Kazutoshi, complements the menu with carefully constructed nigiri and sashimi, topped with ingredients such as citrus zest, black truffle, and caviar.
Kazutoshi said: “As NIJŪ marks its first anniversary, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my interpretation of traditional Japanese cuisine alongside an exemplary sushi programme with our guests. This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our team and the strong appreciation from our guests for experiencing a distinctive take of Japanese cuisine here in London.”
The anniversary menu is priced at £110 per person, with an optional wine pairing available for an additional £70. NIJŪ is located at 20 Berkeley Street, London, W1J 8EE, and is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations can be made via nijulondon.com.
