Bamboo Mat in Leyton turns one this May and to celebrate is offering 20% off all food.

Chef-owners, Denis Gobjila and Victor Rosca, opened a second, larger site in Stratford at the end of last year.

Specialising in Nikkei, or Peruvian-Japanese fusion, cuisine Gobjila (formerly at Chotto Matte,) and his business partner, Rosca (formerly at Sushisamba and Lucky Cat), have joined forces to stamp their own mark on London’s burgeoning scene.

Dishes include the signature seabass ceviche, made up of seabass sashimi, aji amarillo, tiger’s milk, sweet potato, red onion and cancha corn.

Sushi starters include hamachi tiradito – thinly sliced yellowtail kingfish, yuzu truffle soy and aji ammarillo with chives; and chutoro tiradito -pickled wasabi, harumaki skin, yuzu and sesame ponzu.

A selection of maki is also available, like the mango maki, with avocado, cucumber, romano pepper with mango puree and Sriracha sauce.

Hot starters feature lightly seared salmon tataki with coriander, and gambas fritas, deep fried nobashi shimp.

Main courses feature chicken anitcucho, ox cheek with yuzu potato puree and teriyaki sauce, and A4 grade wagyu beef with Japanese BBQ sauce and pickled wasabi.

Children are fully catered for at lunchtime with their very own Bento Box filled with chicken teriyaki, veg salad, edamame, seabass & salmon nigiri.

Bamboo Mat’s drinks menu also offers a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavours, with cocktails and mocktails such as the Tokyo Mule (Japanese vodka, ginger beer, lime, mint and cucumber), and sake like Junmai Daiginjo and Kawatsuru which are available by glass and bottle.

Wines, Japanese spirits, and beers such as Asahi Super Dry and Kiran Ichiban are also available.

Bamboo Mat Stratford’s interiors have been designed by Sebastian Salas from Sebastian Salas Studio, who was inspired by the Peruvian culture and Peruvian arts and crafts he grew up with.
