News – Our Dom Goes To ‘Beer For Beards’ – Doesn’t Win :(

Craft beer. Bearded men. Bearded men drinking craft beer. It seems to be a normal pairing these days, doesn’t it? And to celebrate the generation of beerded men (see what I did there?), Sourced Market recently teamed up with Captain Fawcett to hold a promotion called ‘Beer for Beards’. Tasting Britain were invited along to cover the final day of the promotion.

Sourced Market itself opened its first store in St Pancras in August 2009, supplying high quality, locally sourced produce but in convenient format. Speaking to Ben O’Brien (one of the founders of Sourced Market) earlier in the evening, he commented on that he was pleased to be involved with the brewing industry from a very early stage:

When Sourced Market opened our first site in St Pancras back in 2009, we became an early adopter of craft beer, working with the first craft brewers in town.

We’re passionate about small independent breweries and beards; as beards and beer seem to go hand in hand these days, we thought we would celebrate with our Beer for Beards event…”

With the event held at its pop-up store in Old Street Station, Sourced Market encouraged those with strong facial fuzz to either have their picture taken at the store (as well as enjoy a free beer) or to send a picture via social media in order to be entered into a competition for best beard; failing to mention the chance to win a two litre beer growler filled with the brew of their choice. All of the entries were placed on the beard board for the judges review.

After much deliberation between Ben O’Brien from Sourced Market and Richie Finney from Captain Fawcett, Hassanain Moledina was announced as the winner of the competition. Congratulations, Hassanain!

However, we weren’t just there to get drunk and stroke beard (as tempting as it was) – we do have to write about a few things every now and then. All of the beers at the store were supplied by The Bottle Shop, a fantastic company supplying interesting recipes from breweries all over the country. With shops in Canterbury and Southwark, it is a must-see for any beer enthusiast.

We also found out that Sourced Market’s Old Street store is not a permanent fixture, and that it will be closing in favour of more permanent site. The location has yet to be announced, but do watch this space and we look forward to hearing more from Ben and the team at Sourced Market in the near future.

And to leave you – our dear reader – with something that will no doubt make you chuckle, here’s a picture of me looking incredibly awkward on Sourced Market’s beard board. The things I do for y’all!

Thanks, Sourced Market! [Ed: If this were ‘beer for taches’ I would be angry if Dom didn’t at least make the top 3.]
