1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen, situated on the rooftop of the historic John Lewis & Partners flagship store on Oxford Street, will open on May 22 with a rooftop garden.

Named in honour of the year John Lewis & Partners was founded, 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen is designed for socialising, and will accommodate up to 200 people standing with 64 seats for lounging and dining in the indoor bar, on the outdoor terrace and in greenhouse-style booths.

The space will feature accents of bespoke, striped fabric by Colours of Arley and tactile, aromatic greenery curated by Underleaf, including wildflowers, climbing plants and a variety of herbs found reflected in the seasonal cocktails, such as mint and rosemary.

Complemented by live DJ sets on Friday and Saturday nights, the cocktail offering will promise expertly executed classics including negronis and margaritas, alongside unique creations including the Oaxaca Martini made with Del Maguey mezcal, Olmeca Reposado tequila, Cointreau, lime and agave, and the Gypsy Martini, featuring Martin Millers gin infused with the flavours of raisin and rosemary, mixed with Martini Bianco vermouth

Guests can enjoy a mix of snacks, small plates, salads, and desserts from the food menu.

Highlights will include lobster rolls with pickled cucumber and marie rose sauce; seaweed tempura monkfish with a wild garlic emulsion; hand carved Ibérico Bellota ham; and vegan chocolate mousse topped with crushed hazelnuts and olive oil

Ben Warner, founder of Benugo, which will be running the unique concept, said: “After many years working closely with our friends at John Lewis, I am delighted to be collaborating with the iconic brand once again on an exciting new chapter.  We’re thrilled to now be able to offer customers a completely different experience, with the 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen being a place where they can relax, unwind and let their hair down amongst friends on the building’s impressive rooftop.”

Katie Papakonstantinou, Director of Services and Hospitality at John Lewis and Partners added: “We’re delighted to be bringing the 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen to Oxford Street’s skyline. We look forward to welcoming both regular and new customers to our flagship store to enjoy the rooftop vistas, high quality menu and excellent service.”
