Cicchetti Bar by Piccolino, Heddon Street, Mayfair, London - chicken skewers wrapped in slices of pancetta

According to The Cicchetti Bar’s manager, Fabio, ‘Cicchetti’ means something that you take with you (e.g. the glass of wine that gets you through that first office meeting – oh wait…). On the main part they do Venetian/Italian style antipasti (small plates). The thing about these small plates is that they’re actually quite filling, especially when you end up with well…fucking hundreds of them, as me and my buddy Dom discovered last week. You know the thing about Italian hospitality right? The only limits on their generosity is your stomach capacity, and sometimes they’re not taking physiological limits for an acceptable excuse for you to stop eating (“whya you not eat? You’ra skin an bone!”). Cue three desserts, ‘beer ambushes’, prosecco that was not planned for, etc. Overall I would say that it was a legendary meal, the food was really quite something (I assume it’s Piccolino’s food, or a slight modification of). The place feels like a basement club at times – there’s a tiny DJ booth, and I even saw a few women dancing, despite the small space. The wine list is almost completely Italian, which is basically the only excuse I need to live under the table down there. I first tried a ‘Bamboo’ cocktail here, which was exactly what I think a cocktail should taste like. All in all, highly recommended – would be a meraviglioso place to spend Friday night
