Westminster Abbey is opening up its green spaces for a summer programme of events, marked by a celebratory afternoon tea.

The Abbey is home to a 900-year-old garden, thought to be the oldest in England and originally used for growing medicinal herbs and foods for the Abbey’s monks.

Now, the iconic landmark will celebrate this and its other green spaces with Creation, a summer season of events to remind people that they are all connected in one living world.

Highlights include a guided tour with Head Gardener Jan Pancheri, a yoga class in the walled garden, drawing workshops and Wednesday Lates with folk music.

Inspired by the gardens, a Creation afternoon tea will be served at Cellarium, set within the Abbey’s medieval cloisters, showcasing sweet and savoury bites created by Benugo pastry chefs.

Guests can sit at Cellarium’s upstairs indoor dining area, which boasts a glass ceiling with views of Westminster Abbey.

Benugo was founded in 1998 in Clerkenwell, London, by brothers Ben and Hugo.

The Benugo brand can be found at award-winning high street stores, cafes and restaurants within some of the world’s best-loved attractions, such as Natural History Museum, V&A, Ashmolean, The British Museum, Science Museum, ABBA Voyage, BFI Southbank, Edinburgh and Stirling Castles and John Lewis stores throughout the UK.
