After a £2.4 million refurbishment, The Trafalgar has officially reopened at 224–226 King’s Road, Chelsea, marking the first new public house to open on the historic street in more than a century. Owned by Three Cheers Pub Co., the group founded by childhood friends Tom Peake, Mark Reynolds and Nick Fox, The Trafalgar combines traditional British pub culture with modern dining and live entertainment in a striking Grade II-listed setting.
Located in a former bank opposite Chelsea Town Hall, The Trafalgar forms part of Cadogan’s Gaumont project. Inside, guests enter through a lobby marked by a miniature Trafalgar Square lion before stepping into the Old Banking Hall, a dramatic space featuring five-metre-high aged-bronze ceilings, Flemish chandeliers, and bespoke wallpaper by Adam Ellis. Vintage art, original paperwork and elegant lighting lend the room a timeless appeal, while the bar itself, dark oak with a polished ebony top and arched green-tiled backdrop, anchors the space.
Adjoining the main bar, the Dining Room seats up to 45 guests and pairs burgundy walls with antique artwork, velvet lighting and tan leather banquettes. The look, described as “grand but welcoming,” reflects the group’s aim to create a true community pub for modern Chelsea.
The food menu celebrates British classics with a refined touch: from scotch eggs with coronation mayonnaise and Irish oxtail croquettes with Bovril mayonnaise, to Orkney scallops with onion jam. Mains include poached guinea fowl, Suffolk Wagyu cheeseburgers and potato pavé with celeriac purée, alongside a Sunday roast lineup featuring wagyu beef, red pork belly, and a signature ale-braised beef Thor’s Hammer designed for sharing. A two- or three-course set lunch (£22/£27) adds value to the Chelsea dining scene, while weekend brunch and a children’s menu ensure broad appeal.
Downstairs, The Havannah Room serves as the pub’s entertainment hub. Named after HMS Havannah and framed by velvet curtains and mirrored ceilings, the space hosts a weekly pub quiz, burlesque shows from Clandestine Cabaret, live music, and Always Be Comedy every Thursday, the award-winning club known for surprise appearances from top comedians including Nish Kumar, Joel Dommett and Sarah Keyworth.
