Seaside at St. Moritz Hotel and Apartments, Trebetherick, Wadebridge, Cornwall

Perfect summer wine

This was one of many exciting stops on my first ‘food tour of Cornwall’ with the lovely Laura and Kieran (both of whom are involved with Tasting Britain as writers, and both of whom I now count as good friends). This restaurant is one of two at the St. Moritz – a resort – and one that might remind you of similar such resorts in (generally) more sunny places, such as Spain or Greece. The resort’s other restaurant focuses more on fine dining.

The overall appearance is not one of luxury, but it doesn’t come across as ‘budget’ either. It’s also got an art deco thing going on. And many little things that look like sheds and have random words on them. In the few hours we spent there I could not decipher their purpose but that’s OK because maybe they don’t need a purpose anyway.

I didn’t really have any preconceptions about the food and drink here, having been told essentially nothing by Laura before dropping in but HOLY SHIT this is an amazing place to get tapas. Or said better: a place to get amazing tapas. This is partly down to head chef Jamie Porter – who is apparantly only 28 but seems to have his shit together. Yes, I know – I should elaborate on ‘amazing tapas’: I’ve eaten Spanish food in places from high end Spanish restaurants in West Londion to – Seaside is right up there with the best of them. All I can do is mourn the reality that it is many, many hundreds of miles away from my current home. 🙁

I don’t really ‘do’ lunch but this is probably one of the best ones I have ever experienced (no hype no homo). And so, the bar has been set very high indeed, but due to the somewhat…incovenient location the bar may be stuck there….or remain mostly unnoticed for quite some time yet. But yeah – if you’re nearby and you ever enjoyed a tapa – GET SOME
