We Don’t Know If James Bond Ate Afternoon Tea, But If He Did..

Someone at the Jumeirah decided that it’d be a good idea to time a Bond themed afternoon tea menu with the release of Spectre, the latest instalment in the James Bond franchise (long may it continue).

We assume a lot of money went to MGM &/or Columbia in licensing fees, but the result was a very beautiful looking afternoon tea (and so we tip our hat to Jumeirah’s Exec Chef Simon Young…).

Anyway, we got an invite to come down and try said menu, and so finally finding a place that my Mum would actually enjoy (you think it’d be easier to tempt your mother out with a free meal but it’s surprisingly hard…) I headed down – mother in tow.

I’ve been to the Jumeira’s London hotels a few times now. The Rib Room (located next to The Chinoiserie) and The Terrace (just up the road at Jumeirah Lowndes) are both pretty impressive – and considering this place has been in Knightsbridge of all places for longer than half a century, there must be something to it…

The Surroundings

For those unaware, Jumeirah Carlton Tower can be found just off of the lovely Sloane Street – one of the Capital’s most expensive and fashionable shopping areas. Like the surrounding area of Knightsbridge, the ambiance is one of old money and high society. If you’ve been to Knightsbridge, you’ll know what you’re getting yourself into. If you live in Knightbridge, you’re probably pretty familiar with Jumeirah already…

Afternoon tea takes place at Jumeirah Carlton’s ‘Chinoiserie’, a restaurant/lounge area very much decorated with Chinoiserie wallpaper and with lots of extremely comfortable sofas and chairs. It’s a bit like a giant front room, except with more Saudis and waiter service…

The Main Event

Anyway, onto the imbibables…

The Teas

There doesn’t seem to be a full list of The Chinoiserie’s teas anywhere, but I’d imagine they cater to most tastes.

I managed to get a green tea of some sort (overboiled, pretty bland, they didn’t say which sort of tea) whereas mother got possibly THE most aromatic redbush/rooibos I did ever smell. So I guess it balances out?
