Review – Shaken Udder milkshakes

Made in the heartlands of Essex, Shaken Udder produces a great range of delicious milkshakes in the classic flavours, but with a lighter, fresher feel than many of its competitors. Shaken Udder began its life at music festivals before launching as a retail brand to all of the big boy supermarkets.

The look

They are a fun looking product, with silly looking cows on the bottle that have a great appeal to kids, without being patronising and alienating the grown-up crowd. It may seem like a small detail, but the bottle shape is really well thought out, with a ridge right where you want to grip it. Small, but very convenient. Then there’s the tagline – ‘A new breed’ … but is this true?

The taste

I think the statement above really is true. These milkshakes are a lighter version that many of the competitors out there, less dense and bit of a fresher feel to them. Some flavours are definitely better than others, as you’ll see, but all in all, it’s a great range and something I’d be quite happy giving to friends or family of all ends of the age spectrum.

Vanillalicious
This had a really strong, vanilla scent, like someone had melted a tub of ice cream and poured it in the bottle. The texture is thin and silky, not cloying at all. The flavour is very rich and tastes like vanilla bean, rather than the soapy artificial taste that comes with some vanilla products.

Top Banana
Smells lush, reminds me of the little foam bananas from the sweet shop. The smell is better than the taste though, it doesn’t pack as much punch as the vanilla or as I was expecting. from a banana flavoured drink. A bit more sickly and a slightly bitter aftertaste – like a real banana.

Chocololush
Smells like the milk left at the bottom of your coco pops bowl (something I utterly adore by the way). The taste is so much better and stronger than that though. Lighter than a lot of chocolate milkshakes, I could drink a whole one of these even though I’m not a chocoholic. Uses real belgian chocolate and the quality shines through!

Note: The kiddies don’t have the vanilla in their range, but they have a strawberry instead.

The good stuff

All of the range has less than 5% added sugar and have no added nasties (colours and flavourings). They are also full of calcium and vitamin B12. The product has a shelf life of about three weeks, not bad considering it’s not full of chemically enhancing stuffs!
