The Good

It’s alcohol free

Earlier this year, I was sampling some low sugar fruit juice and this is the exact thing I previously said was its downside. Alcohol free: what’s the point in that? I have since given my health a bit of an overhaul, and actually really enjoy days off from drinking to excess. Especially as we creep towards the holiday season. Especially as a writer’s pay is lowly, and boozing is an expensive game.

Using flavour combinations such as Peach & Green Tea; Lemon, Lime & Ginger; Pomegranate & Elderflower; Kiwi, Lime & Mint; Grapefruit & Passionfruit; Bramley Apple & Ginger; Lemon, Lime & Ginger, the flavours are subtle and delicious. I am a big fan of pomegranates, and so the combo of elderflower and pomegranate was a particular winner for me. The mint in the Kiwi Lime and Mint one was subtle enough to really complement the other flavours, rather than stifling them.

Some of their properties:

Due to the various botanicals included in the recipes, some of the health giving properties of ingredients are rich in antioxidants, aid concentration, or revitalise, so whilst offering an alcohol free alternative for the imminent Christmas season, they also offer a boost for the days when the body needs to recalibrate!

The Price

If actually being used as an alcohol substitute, then it really is a bargain at under £2 to get a refreshing thirst quencher. The saving on actual booze will be so magnificent, that splashing out on a few bottles of this should not be a problem at all. If it is maybe you need to have a chat with your liver!

The Bad

Costly:

See above re: price. Yes, it is a little more than a can of soft drink, but it’s also shitloads better for you. Personally when I am hungover or detoxing, I tend to enjoy coconut water, as it has a massive amount of potassium, which someone somewhere told me is good for the body. This costs around the same price, which over time can get expensive, but as an accompaniment to dry January or in place of booze, it is money well spent.

Conclusion:

I enjoyed all of the flavours of Firefly drinks, particularly the Pomegranate and Elderflower and the Peach and Green Tea, and as part of a season of wellbeing, or even as an alcohol free treat for the holiday season, these are worth trying. As always, it’s important to bear in mind that they will not transform your health overnight; only you can do that!
