Heartwood Inns has opened the doors to The George & Dragon, a Grade II listed pub with rooms on the banks of the Thames in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.

Just moments from the town’s iconic bridge and high street, the restored pub blends period character with relaxed luxury, from cosy corners and original features to a sun-soaked garden terrace perfect for alfresco dining.

The menu champions seasonal British cooking with responsibly sourced ingredients, earning Heartwood a three-star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association.

Dishes include twice-baked cheese soufflé with coastal Cheddar sauce, trout gravadlax, beetroot terrine with horseradish sorbet, pork tomahawk with roasted Braeburn apple, pan-fried sea bream, dressed Devon crab, beef & ale pie, and Aubrey Allen steaks.

Puddings range from chocolate and amarena cherry torte to sticky toffee pudding, while Sundays are all about roasts with 30-day dry-aged beef, bottomless roast potatoes, Yorkshires and rich gravy.

Drinks run from local beers and low-intervention wines to classic cocktails.

Children have their own menu (two courses £10.50 / three courses £13.50), with dishes like veggie bolognese, cod fingers, and a strawberry knickerbocker glory.

Upstairs, 17 boutique bedrooms range from snug singles to larger rooms with freestanding bathtubs.

All feature king-size beds, rainfall showers, Roberts radios, Illy coffee machines, Bramley toiletries, and Smart TVs. Several are dog-friendly, complete with a dedicated dog menu (featuring a “Paw Star Martini”) and an outdoor dog wash station.

With riverside walks, boutique shops, and top dining spots on the doorstep, plus Henley, Windsor, Oxford, and the Chiltern Hills within easy reach, The George & Dragon makes an ideal base for weekend escapes. London is under an hour away by train.
