Review – Seventy Five at Liberty, Oxford Circus

Nestled above the bustle of Regent Street, Seventy Five at Liberty feels like a well-kept secret. It is a quiet, elegant oasis that brings something entirely new to one of London’s most iconic stores.

As Liberty marks its 150th anniversary, this new all-day dining spot from British hospitality group Goose + Berry arrives with a clear purpose: to honour the legacy of the store through thoughtful design and refined modern British cooking.

The Ambience
The space is as richly detailed as the Liberty fabrics that inspired it. Interiors blend arts and crafts warmth with a clean, contemporary edge—Chinoiserie panels, botanical wallpaper, and vintage velvets play against a bold fabric ceiling installation, a dramatic centrepiece and a first of its kind. Rich hues of burgundy and green create a cocooning atmosphere, while the layered textures and soft lighting provide a sense of calm.

It’s easy to forget you’re just a few steps away from the chaos of Oxford Circus.

Art remains a central pillar of the Liberty ethos. The walls host work by the restaurant’s Artist in Residence, beginning with none other than Sir Quentin Blake—a whimsical, nostalgic touch that feels entirely in keeping with the store’s creative heart.

The Food
Head Chef Joe Holness, whose pedigree includes Fera at Claridge’s and Da Terra, leads the kitchen with quiet confidence. His menu of sharing-style modern British plates is well-crafted, generous, and refreshingly unpretentious.

We begin with rapeseed focaccia—light and fluffy, served warm with Maldon sea salt and a whipped Marmite butter that could even win over the Marmite-sceptics with its moreish savoury bite.

It’s an addictive start. A fish of the day dish arrives with leeks, sea herbs and a mussel sauce that’s both subtle and rich with umami.

Alongside it, 35-day aged beef sirloin for two is served medium rare, well-seasoned and meaty, complemented with a refreshing thyme-infused jus. On the side, tenderstem broccoli with roasted hazelnut purée offers a gentle, nutty balance. Everything feels considered and nourishing.

We forego dessert, but those with a sweet tooth are spoilt for choice; a chocolate mousse with preserved cherries on a neighbouring table appears both indulgent and elegant. Other options include a brown sugar custard tart, with raspberries, crème fraîche and a cherry bakewell tart, served with preserved cherries.

The Verdict
Cooking at Seventy Five at Liberty is thoughtful and well-executed. With generous portions, friendly service and great value for central London, it’s a place you can visit for anything from a relaxed solo lunch to a celebratory dinner. Brunch, afternoon tea and cocktails inspired by Liberty’s own LBTY fragrance collection complete an impressively well-rounded menu offering. For those seeking quality without fuss and beauty without noise, it may well become a regular spot.
