Al Mare is the signature restaurant at the revamped Carlton Tower Jumeirah in Knightsbridge

Al Mare [Knightsbridge]

Following a major refurbishment, The Carlton Tower Jumeirah is set to open high-end Italian restaurant, Al Mare this month. The main dining room has been completely designed with a Rosapino marble bar, as a focal point, and all the theatre of an open kitchen. Space overlooking Cadogan Gardens allows for alfresco dining and a “cigar butler service” is provided. Expect dishes like classic Veal Milanese, dressed up, and a risotto made with the world’s finest ‘Piana di Navelli’ saffron.

Ave Mario [Covent Garden]

Big Mamma Group, the force behind London favourites Gloria and Circolo Popolare are opening a whopping new 300-seater space. The menu is Florence-inspired and highlights promise a 60cm tall stracciatella ice cream cake.

Bellefields [Brixton]

Revamped Edwardian retail mecca and home of Canova Hall, The Department Store, is opening Department Store Studios a new space within the premises. This latest offering will host shared offices and also feature a Balaeriac and pan-Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. Headed by ex-Bonnie Gull James Mathieson, the menu will feature dishes like Linguine Vongole and Turkish Manti.

Bibi [Mayfair]

More fine dining is settling in Mayfair with Bibi, an Indian restaurant focused on grilling and small plates from chef Chet Sharma (formerly Mugaritz, L’Eclume, and JKS). Dishes will include raw beef pepper fry with coconut ash dosa and a chat masala made with scallop roe to accompany gondhoraj scallop – as well as skewers – such as four-pepper lobster and dagad phool lamb rumpon.

Camden Beer Hall [Kentish Town]

A Bavarian-style brewery by the Camden Town Brewery will descend on north London this month, bolstered by a beer-paired food menu dreamt up by Theo Randall.

Not only is some of the tastiest bread in London coming to Green Lanes but this new, slightly larger branch will also become a pizza restaurant in the evening.

El Pastor [Soho]

This latest incarnation, taking over the old Hix site, will feature more of the tacos and tostadas found at the group’s other taquerias. There will, however, also be a basement bar with the kind of vibe that promises a very on-trend slice of early 00s Soho. “Mezcaleria El Colmillo”, named after the nightclub EP c0-founders Sam and Crispin ran (incidentally, in in the 90s and 00s in Mexico City), promises a stellar sound system, house music, and a large selection of mezcal.

Hackney Coterie [Dalston]

This deli, bottle shop and brasserie is another addition to the area, taking over the old L’entrepot site, from the people behind Crouch End’s Lyon’s Seafood & Wine Bar. Evening plates will be small and seasonal, with coffee and pastries in the morning.

Hector’s [Islington]

Islington is also getting a coffee shop (Tuesday – Sunday) and wine bar (Thursday – Saturday) with small European-inspired sharing plates. Here, it will be Hector’s by Hill & Szrok’s Luca Mathiszig-Lee (current owner) and Hill & Szrok former partner  Jimmy Stephenson, alongside Stephenson’s partner, actor Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter, The Witcher).

Jiji [Islington]

Japense-Israeli fusion from Sumosan restaurateur Janina Wolkow is will be the focal point of this new site in the Islington Square development. Jeremy Borrow, formerly of The Palomar will be overseeing a menu which includes flamed aubergine with tahini jalapeno and blow-torched scallop nigiri.

Jeremie Cometto-Lingenheim and David Gingell are opening two “bakery satellites” to sell goods made from ingredients sourced on farms with sustainable soil practices.

Tasting menus are a staple in Mayfair and the one at Maru one promises to be substantial – featuring 20 courses of farm-to-table dining, omakase-style. Taiji Maruyama, the chef behind Taka is behind the venture.

Nusr-Et Steakhouse [Knightsbridge]

The long-awaited London branch of Salt Bae’s social media-storming steakhouse is apparently to open this month. Salt Bae (Nusret Gökçe) is said to be coming for the opening; expect theatrics and gilded steaks.

Yotam Ottolenghi is opening another branch of his popular restaurant featuring a fresh, colorful menu with zesty flavours and lots of vegetarian-friendly options.

Barely cooling off from P Franco’s kitchen, Seb Myers is opening Planque, a wine bar, restaurant, members club, and more – all under two railway arches in Haggerston.

Gabriel Pryce and Missy Flynn head west for this new location, where diners can enjoy a sit-d0wn meal but also, there is a deli for those famous sandwiches to make an appearance.

With a cult following in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, and Birmingham, it’s small wonder people are hyped about this London debut. A menu that focuses heavily on maintaining Neapolitan tradition and authenticity make this pizzeria an interesting addition to the capital’s extensive scene.

Pasquale Chionchio and Angelo Ambrosio’s flagship pizzeria in Ealing is moving ….just up the road, from its home in St Mary’s. Still focused on Neopolitan pizza, the new premises is sure to keep the west London masses just as satisfied.

Temaki

Temaki [Brixton]

This eponymous handroll restaurant, the first of its kind in south London, will offer a personal and immediate touch, with handrolls being made and rolled to order. Seasonal fare will feature alongside classics such as white and brown crab, egg yolk and white soy, and unagi eel, cucumber, and wasabi. Temaki is the brainchild of Japanese rice chef Shaulan Steenson who trained at Tokyo’s Hakkoku under world-famous chef Hiroyuki Sato and at Sushijin in Toyama.

Vergine Maria [Ealing]

Ealing pizza pundits Pasquale Chionchio and Angelo Ambrosio are opening up a restaurant offering vegan pizzas and other specials on the site of Santa Maria, which has now moved to Bond Street.
