Fast food is on the menu tonight, and there’s lots and lots of chicken, but have Slim Chickens got something special… or are they merely a fancy version of KFC?

This is one for fast food lovers. As it’s in the middle of Soho you’ll find couples, groups of friends, those looking for a pre-theatre snack and of course, lots of tourists.
Interior/Ambience
The first thing to say about this place is that it does look like a typical fast-food restaurant. You order at the counter and pay up. There’s even a kiosk for you to order your food and pay just like McDonald’s. So there isn’t much shout about here. After taking some time to decide what we wanted, we ordered and went upstairs to the dining area.
It’s fairly roomy with wooden counter tops, bar stool and metal chairs and bar brick walls. It’s very chilled and laid back and the American theme continues with non-stop blues music from Fayetville, Arkansas. Pretty cool huh?
Menu
Despite specialising in, you guessed it, chicken, you’re actually spoilt for choice. There are a choice of wings, burgers, sides and various meal combos. The big difference here is that you can choose what sauces go with your choices. This can be slightly mind-boggling especially if you’re not sure what you want.
Trial and error looks like the way forward…
Food
So, for food I order the 6 Wing Meal, Fries and two sauces Spicy BBQ and Garlic Parmesan. Jack orders the Slim Fried Meal, Fries and two sauces Korean and Honey BBQ. For sides we order a Large Coleslaw, a Veggie Sandwich and Mac & Cheese.
The food comes all at the same time, so you’ll find yourself struggling to decide what to eat first. But as the saying goes, you just have to dig in!
The chicken wings are tenderly cooked and absolutely smothered in Spicy BBQ sauce. The chips are chunky and soft on the inside and the Garlic Parmesan sauce makes a surprisingly good accompaniment as you only get a hint of garlic so it’s not overpowering.
Although the wings are delicious, it gets a little tiresome thanks to the overload of sauce. The sides however, break the monotony.
Firstly, the cool and crispy coleslaw cuts through the heat and sweetness of the barbeque sauce and is a delicious accompaniment. The Mac & Cheese certainly adds to the carbs but we love it just the same. It’s so moreish and satisfying and again makes a delightful side to the chicken dishes.
Jack’s Slim Chicken Tenders are cooked to perfection and are delicious with a touch of Korean sauce and Honey BBQ sauce. It’s hard to tell which is better, but there’s no harm in mixing it up a little!
By this time we’re feeling full but we share the Veggie Sandwich dipping it in whatever sauces remain. It surprisingly good for a vegetarian burger, normally they can be stodgy and crammed with too many vegetables, but the amount is just right here, it’s also soft and just a little bit crispy on the outside. It’s served on a bed of lettuce and is great on its own.
Conclusion
Overall, Slim Chickens are more than just a fast food chain. The chicken is tip-top, the sides are deliciously moreish and the choice of sauces and allows you to come up with some interesting and tasty combos.
There’s also a relaxing vibe which lets you enjoy the food and company even if you’re only here for a short time. Vegetarians will find slim pickings here but chicken fans will definitely love it. Slim Chickens will go pretty far over here.
