For those of you (like me) that love ice-cream the thought of a festival dedicated to one of the best in breed categories – gelato – sounds like utter heaven. Alas, that’s what’s in store for Londoners this coming weekend! Located at the Old Spitalfields Market for one weekend only, head down to sample some of the finest gelato in the world.

The festival comes complete with a school, named Caterina after Caterina de’ Medici who went to France to be married to king Henry of Valois and is dubbed the first true ambassador of Florentine ice cream in the world. It hosts the cooking shows where the professionals show you how to recreate some of their best recipes, they will host meet and greets and judging panels will decide the best of all the flavours.

If you plan to visit then it’s worth buying a Gelato Card when you get there, which costs £14.99 and entitles you to five tubs of a single-flavour ice cream, from the flavours in the competition and the special flavours. It also entitles you to vote for your favourite competing flavour, winning a free tasting from the different ice creams proposed by the makers. The Gelato Card also gives you free access to the courses at the Gelato Festival school.

Open: 26-28 June, 10am-8pm
