As with some of the other chains, Tasting Britain is sometimes invited down to review stuff when The Slug & Lettuce’s menu is updated. We came down for the spring/summer menu for 2015.

For a bit of history about these guys: If you’re a Londoner, or have been a Londoner in the last 25 years or so, you probably know about the Slug & Lettuce. The first ‘Slug’ was opened by Hugh Corbett in Islington, all the way back in 1984. Since then they’ve changed hands quite a few times, and come a rather long way, with around 70 of them to be found in London and the South East at this point.

What to say? the experience is consistent, if a little bland. I’ve never had a bad time there. The fact that we have one in Croydon now is excellent. Hell, they’ve even got one of my favourite wines on the menu – The Federalist Zinfandel (Thermonuclear alcoholic Ribena laced with serotonin, Americana and euphoria. A towering achievement for humanity…)

Well done, People Of The Slug…
