All the food news for this week

With Easter out of the way, the sun has thawed winter away too, and now we are getting ready for summer! As spring is taking over menus the length and breadth of the country. Recently the country has decided to spend more holidays here on staycations, and the hospitality industry continues to be booming! As some places dust of the coat tails of recession, financiers report that food, drink and hotels are seeing the biggest growth.

Food festivals are starting to crop up like the one in Porthleven. Famous for being the location where Rick Stein has opened his latest restaurant, Porthleven is a small village just outside of Falmouth in Cornwall.

In the theme of spring, Masterchef professionals finalist Sven Hanson Britt has been hosting pop up events in Brighton at Rust. As part of the tabl collective, Sven is cooking a celebration of spring vegetables and the menu sounds divine. We’re really hoping to get along there on May 9th to eat some foraged and locally found foods, such as Ramson’s and seaweed, amongst others. To have a look at the menu, or book a table hop over to the tabl site and get celebrating the awesomeness of British spring time.

The port of Falmouth is celebrating the beginning of something exciting: a renaissance of the sail trades. Bristol based ship Tres Hombres will be arriving in Falmouth Docks, with Rum, coffee and chocolate shipped from across the Atlantic, in the Caribbean. The company New Dawn Traders who are selling the cargo have arranged a theatre and arts programme to celebrate the rekindling of this ancient trade route. The full programme can be viewed over at http://www.newdawntraders.com/events/. Stunning nautical themed hotel The Oceanic in Falmouth still have space in some of their apartment hotels for people to take advantage of their excellent offer of a break from the city.

Chefs and creative cooks may be interested to know that The Wasabi Company stock not only the root of the Japanese hot radish, but currently it’s the season for the flowers too. Making a stunning decoration and also with the bite of mustard, these are a must for garnishing sushi plates or seafood.

Events coming up around the country will also celebrate the upcoming summer season, including Taste the Wild wild food weekends happening in different locations in Yorkshire, as well as the many foodie festivals happening around the country. More on these as they come up, but suffice it to say from the North to the South, we will sending as many armies of taster out to hunt down amazing food for you.
