The cheese board is one of those things that people tend to love or hate. Is it a dessert or is it savoury? It often struggles to find its place in a meal. I for one am often anti-cheese board as I don’t want to follow my meal with something so intensely heavy. But what if cheese was made into the star of the show?
As a keen chef, I often host dinner parties at home, so was delighted when I was invited to try out a cooking class all around cheese – heavenly! Hosted by Castello and L’Atelier Des Chefs at their Oxford Street base, we ventured along for a night of cooking, learning about and eating cheese.
The cooking classes have two elements to them. Firstly you will learn how to make an asparagus, pea, Castello Creamy White & bacon tart. This delicious dish can be served up alongside a number of things to kick off your dinner party, we like adding buttery new potatoes or a nice, fresh green salad.
Once your creations are in the oven, the team will then help you to create the ULTIMATE cheese board using a mix of Castello cheeses. These aren’t all weird and wonderful, offensive cheeses as you often find with traditional cheese boards, there are a mix of classics, innovative and luxury types to choose from. But more about those in our reviews section soon. All of these are matched to a number of wines, ciders, bubblies and more.
The next Castello cheese and wine night is lined up for Friday 18th July, costing £27 per person (RRP £36pp).
